This Wedding Season, Bring Out Your True Self

Are you looking to break the monotony of the heavy and bling- almost same colored ballad of wedding outfits? You are at the right place and reading this article just in time for the upcoming wedding season. Be assured that after you are done here, you will have a clear idea of what you want and don t want to do and probably- you might and up picturing your final look by the end of this page. First things first, I must tell you that I believe in the concept of weddings strongly-as long as it’s not mine and as long as the food menu is diverse and delicious. After all, why else would you go to a gathering all your relatives who you have nothing in common with and who are just going to ask your questions to gather gossip? Well, the simple and straight forward answer delicious buffet of food.

Indian weddings are just normal wedding on steroids- where everything is multiplied by a hundred- emotions, dressing up, make-up, show-off, dowry, sanskaar, and off course aashirwaad. I suggest that if you’re really planning a wedding of your own, which most probably you are- give all your guests a dress code along with a sexism code too. How about a “leave your sexism and patriarchal views at home” to every guest with the invitation cards? After you’ve sorted that out, I mean by filtering your guestlist to shun all the negativity- lerts concentrate on making you look beautiful vfor this wedding you have to attend.

So you’ve got to be the badass wedding guest. So first things first, get your aviators out.  Next- Forget the traditional red, maroon and pink this season. Make a statement with the colours you choose, try sunshine yellow, gold, orange or purple. You could colour block two contrasting colours to create visual irony or go monotone from head to toe while playing with textures. Now think dupattas- you could even join two dupattas together to turn them into a saree. Clearly, there is a lot you can do with a dupatta, making it a must have in any Indian wedding wardrobe. Now turn over to statement Jewellry. Instead of spending a fortune on small pieces of gold or diamond Jewellry, which are bound to go unnoticed, buy one piece of Jewellry which makes a statement and makes heads turn. Think out of the box when it comes to choosing this one piece of jewellery. Forget the bangles and necklaces, instead consider a ‘passa jhoomar’ for your hair, an antique maang tikka, an elaborate waist belt or even the more modern head and body chains.

Everyone loves a good surprise-so give them a shock. An easy way to make a statement is putting unlikely separates together. Forget the saree blouse, wear the saree with a fierce crop top, forget the lehenga’s choli, pair the lehenga with a T-shirt, and forget the Kanjeevaram , wear a maxi dress with temple Jewellry. A tiny change can go a long way, so just go ahead and make that change.

And for the last bit of being non-conforming- don’t go to any wedding shopping. Seriously. No shopping trips. Just order in from Myntra
