Saraswati Puja 2018: Date, Panchang, Timings & Significance of Saraswati Puja

It is the end of the cold days of the lender. Spring has come to our doors and the whole nation spared no effort to welcome the King of Seasons in all his glory. Hindus from all over the country celebrate Basant Panchami today. Saraswati Puja 2018 Date celebrates the beginning of the spring and the harvest. Pasant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Maagh (one month in Hindu calendar). The word “Basant” means spring and “Panchmi” refers to the fifth day of the festival. Basant Panchami is also celebrated as Saraswati Puja in many societies.

On this auspicious day, Hindus respect Saraswati. It is said that the Saraswati gods are the goddess of knowledge, so students are particularly looking forward to this occasion. On this day, they put their books at the feet of the idol and seek their blessings. In some societies, young children are also introduced to writing on the happy occasion. People who have participated in music also search for the divine grace of God, where Saraswati is also said to be the goddess of art, music and culture.

Like all festivals, preparations for the Saraswati show begin days ago. The clay models of the Saraswati goddess, held by Vina (a musical instrument), are seated in her belly by expert sculptors. The goddess wears beautiful clothes and accessories.

The yellow color is very pink for the occasion. Color Basent (Spring) Yellow, also known as “Basanti”. It symbolizes prosperity, light, energy and optimism. People wear bright yellow clothes, cooking yellow dishes such as Meeth Chowal, Rajbug, Kisarya Shira, Besan Ladu and Khishdi. The Saraswati Puja vidhi  goddess also offers yellow flowers. They also provide you with lots of fruit. Bear or jujube is believed to be his favorite. In fact, among the Bengalis, it is common tradition to have their first jujube for the season only after they present the offer to the goddess in Saraswati Puja.

On the auspicious day of Saraswati Puja, Hindus wake up early in the morning, take a bath and head to the nearest Bandalis celebrating Saraswati Puja. Some also choose to celebrate the occasion at home by taking Saraswati’s idol to the house and offering a bouquet of fruits, her favorite flowers and a bouquet. Many do Saraswati Vandana and search for their divine blessings.

At night many Bandalis organize cultural programs, contests and games. Many of these meetings also offer tasty food..
