In a groundbreaking move to address environmental concerns and safeguard public health, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government, led by Former Chief Minister Shri. Chandrababu Naidu has taken remarkable strides in enforcing pollution control regulations in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Under the leadership of TDP leaders and some of the Best TDP MLAs, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has embraced innovative solutions to monitor and control automobile pollution, particularly focusing on buses.
A pivotal initiative undertaken by the APSRTC involves the installation of modern diesel smoke meters, totaling eight in number, to closely monitor the pollution levels emitted by buses. These smoke meters, housed in depots, have undergone a significant modernization process, incorporating computers and webcams to enhance efficiency. The move aligns with the TDP government’s commitment to lowering pollution levels in the state. To comply with the stringent pollution control measures set by the TDP government, APSRTC has not only upgraded existing smoke meters but has also acquired 46 advanced electronic smoke meters from reputable firms such as Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL), Neptune, and Nitel Chromatographs. This strategic investment, amounting to approximately Rs. 42 lakhs, aims to provide rapid and precise results of smoke emission levels. Out of the 46 electronic machines, 32 have already been delivered, with the remaining 14 soon to follow. This is one of the TDP achievements done by Chandrababu Naidu and you can also see TDP’s Latest News on their official TDP website.
The enforcement of pollution control measures is not limited to mere installation; APSRTC has taken a comprehensive approach to ensure continuous compliance. The corporation has introduced regular inspections of bus exhaust pollution levels at depots. Trained operators, dispatched monthly, utilize smoke meters to verify emission levels across the region, with Depot Managers responsible for the process at their respective locations. Recognizing the importance of accountability and documentation, the TDP government has issued directives to all parties involved. These directives include the requirement for Depot Managers to maintain control of electronic smoke meters, conduct monthly inspections, and keep a separate register documenting regular smoke level inspections and actions taken against vehicles with excessive emissions. Furthermore, Unit Officers in charge of electronic smoke meters are mandated to establish pollution testing stations, following proper licensing procedures from the relevant Regional Transport Authority.
This strategic and multifaceted approach reflects the TDP government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and responsible governance. The emphasis on real-time monitoring, modernization of equipment, and stringent regulations signifies a proactive stance toward combating automobile pollution in Andhra Pradesh. The APSRTC’s commitment to these measures, under the guidance of the TDP government, stands as one of the significant TDP’s contributions to the well-being of the people and the state’s environment.
