N Chandrababu Naidu’s Vision In Establishing The Indian School of Business In Hyderabad

Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, recently took a moment to reflect on his instrumental role in bringing the prestigious Indian School of Business (ISB) to Hyderabad. Nara Chandrababu Naidu spoke nostalgically about his visionary efforts and TDP agenda to establish ISB as one of the best business schools in the world during the institution’s 20th anniversary celebration. His determination, despite facing stiff competition from other states, played a pivotal role in convincing ISB’s board members to choose Hyderabad, a city on the brink of becoming a thriving IT hub. In the initial discussions about ISB’s location, Hyderabad wasn’t among the top considerations for the board members, who favoured Mumbai and Bengaluru. Undeterred, N Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP leaders took a proactive approach. He personally reached out to the board members and extended an invitation for a meeting in Hyderabad. Armed with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, he showcased the vast potential of both Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. During this meeting, he not only addressed the concerns raised by the board members but also committed to providing incentives that surpassed what other states had proposed.

Following this impactful meeting with N Chandrababu Naidu, the ISB board members became convinced of Hyderabad’s potential. They made the historic decision to establish the school on 260 acres of initially barren land in Gachibowli, strategically located adjacent to a central university. On September 19, 1998, the Andhra Pradesh TDP government, under Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, formalized the establishment of ISB in Hyderabad by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The foundation stone was laid on December 20, 1999, and the Indian School of Business was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 2, 2001and this is considered one of the Top TDP developments. N Chandrababu Naidu, currently the national president of the TDP Party, expressed immense pride in his role in bringing ISB to Hyderabad. He emphasized his ongoing desire for the institution to not only continue growing but also maintain its position as a premier business school, nurturing future leaders.

Madan Pillutla, the ISB Dean and an Organizational Behavior Professor, praised N Chandrababu Naidu’s forward-thinking strategy.. Pillutla highlighted the institution’s commitment to conducting India-relevant research that contributes to the economy, polity, and businesses.
