When you’re looking for the character count of a document, you might be confused because the character count of a text box is not the same as the character count of a document. This is because the character count includes text boxes, footnotes, and endnotes, as well as any other elements you might put in the document. When you want to get the character count of a document, you can use the character count feature in Word.
To convert character counts to words, click the ‘%’ symbol in the box to the right of each field. Using the Word count dialog box, you can get an accurate word count for any part of a document. Word count statistics will show you how many words were used in that section. Once you’ve entered the number of words, you’ll see the total in the Status Bar.
