In a visionary move to uplift the agricultural landscape of Uttarandhra, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government, led by the dynamic Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has launched the An ambitious project named Jagjeevan Ram Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi (BJRUSS) is located in Chodavaram.. The primary objective and TDP agenda of this groundbreaking initiative is to provide irrigation to a substantial expanse of 1.3 lakh acres in the Visakhapatnam district, with a targeted completion date set for the upcoming May. A pivotal aspect of the TDP government’s broader vision is the implementation of river interlinking strategies, aiming to combat drought and extend irrigation benefits to rain-deprived districts. To spearhead and meticulously oversee the BJRUSS project, Uttarandhra Irrigation Project Development Corp. Ltd has been established, garnering approval from the state water resources department.

One of the many objectives of the BJRUSS project is to irrigate an astounding 8.00 lakh acres in the upland areas of the districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. Beyond agricultural enhancements, the project also seeks to provide crucial industrial and drinking water to approximately 30.00 lakh people residing in 1200 villages. To achieve these monumental targets, the project plans to harness 63.2 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of floodwaters, sourced from the Godavari River over a span of 90 days. The establishment of Uttarandhra Irrigation Project Development Corp. Ltd reflects a strategic move by the TDP government to ensure effective project management and streamlined execution. This corporation is responsible for turning the vision into reality, aligning with the N Chandrababu Naidu government’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the region. Key components of the BJRUSS project include incorporating static lifts at various stages, contributing to a total storage capacity of 19.70 TMC. Additionally, the project demands a substantial power requirement, estimated at 339 MW. These infrastructural elements are crucial for the efficient distribution of irrigation resources across the targeted districts.

The financial commitment to this transformative initiative is significant, with the estimated cost of the BJRUSS project standing at approximately Rs. 7214.10 Crores. This financial allocation was sanctioned through G.O.Ms. No. 3 Dt. 2-1-2009, highlighting the N Chandrababu Naidu government’s fiscal dedication to the project. Anticipated outcomes of the BJRUSS project include a substantial agricultural output of 12.32 Lakh Metric Tonnes (MTs) annually, valued at Rs. 2844.51 crores. The calculated benefit-cost ratio of 1.62:1 underscores the economic viability and positive returns expected from this monumental endeavour. The successful execution of the BJRUSS project stands as a testament to the TDP party’s unwavering dedication to the welfare and progress of districts like Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.
