3 Ways to Arm your Children against Head

Lice are amongst the oldest parasites which attack humans. Head lice prey mostly on children as they are less protective of the personal space they share. Lice are contagious. According to the reports, in the United States, there have been 6 million to 12 million reports of head lice infestations between the ages of 3 to 11. This is when kids experience the hours of recess where they play alongside each other, anytime your head comes in contact with the head of another person who has head lice, the infestations start developing on your head. Louse is part of the Phthirapteran family of insects; therefore, they are wingless parasites that attach themselves to warm-blooded hosts. Here is how you can prevent and get rid of head lice

Manual removal of lice

There are specific combs that can be found in your local health and needs store which are used for lice removal. Wet and condition your kids’ hair so that each strand of hair stands out, it also freezes the movement of the lice. Once the hair has been conditioned, run the comb through the hair. The comb will collect the lice and lice eggs so be sure to kill them after every stroke. Repeating this step once a week should get rid of all the lice in the head and further prevent any infestations.

Medication

If you feel like you lack the time to use other methods, you can rely on over-the-counter medications such as a medicated shampoo that helps battle head lice. There are also prescriptions available in-case of severe infestations, you would need to consult your doctor in order to get this medication prescribed. You could also get lotions that specialize in lice control. Most of these lotions contain a substance known as permethrin which is used for most lice treatment products.

Your kid would feel embarrassed to share if they had head lice as it’s a general misconception that only unclean people get head lice. Be sure to tell your kids that it is possible for anybody to get head lice and comfort them. Although other pests tend to spread diseases, head lice do not. But it does not mean that you can take your time to act as head lice multiply quickly. It only takes 12 to 14 days for an egg to hatch and one louse is capable of producing 10 eggs every day. Hence, it is important to act fast and get rid of the infestation with haste.
