What are the different Types of Cancer?

Cells are the units in the body, which grow and divide itself to create new cells as per body’s need. As per general process, cells die and new cells replace them. On the contrary, a body suffering from cancer can’t work in usual way and its cells start to grow uncontrollably.

Till now, almost 200 types of cancer have been identified and most of them are not very common.

Following list contains the most common types of cancer :-

1. Breast Cancer

This cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. These cancerous cells can develop one in every eight women across the globe.  Breast Cancer occurs in the cells of the breast and also it can affect the other parts of the body. Signs of the breast cancer include, Lump in the breast, Nipple invert, Nipple discharge without squeezing, Swelling in the neck or armpit. This cancer rarely occurs in men.

2. Prostate Cancer

This cancer majorly affects the prostate gland of men. Prostate gland is part of the male reproductive system. The function of this gland is to produce fluid in the semen and also to direct urine in men. The gland is located under the bladder and in front of the rectum. Though this cancer is the most common in men and is curable if found in early stage. The common signs of prostate cancer are, blood in the urine, painful urination, difficulty in getting erection, continuous will to urinate etc.

3. Colorectal Cancer

This type of cancer cells affects the longest part of large intestine and last few inches of the large intestine before the anus.

This cancer is the second leading cause of death in men & women. Though, the cells can be non-cancerous in some cases. Most common symptoms include, constipation, blood in feces, pain and bloating in abdomen, feeling full on a small diet, fatigue, blood discharge from the rectum etc. Various treatment options are available to treat it including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

4. Bladder Cancer

In this type of cancer, cancerous cells develop in the lining of the bladder.

Most common symptoms include frequent urge to urinate, pain while urinate, back pain and blood in the urine. Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation are most known options to treat this type of cancer. Smoking, diabetes, family history and severe inflammation of bladder are most common factors, which can cause this cancer.

5. Non-melanoma skin cancer

This cancer develops in the skin cells specifically on those body parts, which are generally exposed to the sun. The skin protects you from harmful factors in the environment like germs and sun. Common signs of the cancer include, shiny pink red or translucent bump, reddish patch can cause irritation, open sore that bleeds does not recover etc. Though, this cancer mostly affects older people more as compared to other age group. Surgery is most commonly opted for to treat this cancer and some topical treatments are also available.

6. Lung cancer

Lung cancer affects your lungs, which are two spongy organs in the chest. Through, lungs we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. These days it has become one of the most common causes of deaths in men as well as in women. Most common signs of lung cancer include, shortness of breath, chest pain, headache, unexpected weight loss etc. Excessive smoking is the most common cause behind this cancer. Other risk factors include, exposure to radon gas and asbestos and family history. Many treatment options are available to treat this cancer including Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Radio surgery and Targeted drug therapy.

7. Kidney cancer

In this cancer, kidney cells become cancerous and grow out of control. In most of the cases, the cancer is initially visible in the lining of tiny tubes. This cancer is mostly detected before it reaches to other organs. Most common symptoms include, Blood in Urine, Weight Loss, pain around waistline, Fatigue, Anemia etc. The cancer is treated with surgery, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy and certain other procedures.

8. Leukemia

This type of cancer occurs in the blood or bone marrow. As the bone marrow produces blood cells. Leukemia is visible when bone marrow produces blood cells abnormally. It usually affects the leukocytes, or white blood cells. This cancer is one of the common childhood cancer but can also be developed in adults. Targeted, Chemo, Radiation, Surgery, Interferon are the therapies used to treat Leukemia.

There are other types of cancer also but the above-mentioned are the most common types found these days.
