Later, it got established as a Roman Catholic cathedral when the Latin occupation of Constantinople happened during the 13th century. The church underwent serious damages when the Ottomans conquered the region during the 15th century and was converted into a mosque. In the year 1935, it was transformed into a museum by the first president and founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, popularly known as the ‘blue mosque’, is yet another charming attraction you must never miss during your Turkey holidays. It was built during the early 17th century by Sultan Ahmed I and continues to function as a mosque even today. When the lights come alive at night, this mosque appears bathed in blue as its 5 main domes, 8 secondary domes, and 6 minarets are lit up. This mosque has been built close to the Hagia Sophia and is visited by plenty of tourists exploring Turkey every year. It was also visited by Pope Benedict XVI in the year 2006.

A visit to this natural site during your cheap holidays to Turkey would give you the opportunity to witness the white travertine terraces. Hierapolis, an ancient Greco-Roman city was constructed on the top of the calcite hill. The calcium-rich springs cascade down the mountains slowly and collect in these terraces, which then appear like milky pools. This region has been attracting people for thousands of years mainly due to the presence of these thermal pools and they are now an inseparable part of Turkey’s tourism. While holidaying in Turkey, you’ll also get the chance to explore the Topkapi Palace.

It was built during the 15th century by Sultan Mehmed II after he conquered Constantinople. The building was constructed as the main residence of the Sultan but was transformed into a museum by the Turkish government after the end of the Ottoman Empire in the year 1923. After its construction, the entire complex was expanded several times over the centuries that followed. Today, the most important rooms of the palace complex have been made accessible to the public, including the treasury and the imperial harem of the Ottomans. You can also find many artefacts from the Ottoman era, such as clothes, weapons, religious relics, and armours exhibited in the museum.
