5 Ways To Keep Mosquitoes Away From Home This Rainy Season

What is that one thing that annoys you about the rainy season? The flooded roads or the gutter or the frequent power cuts or the buzzing mosquitoes? Wait, did we forget the act of drying wet clothes? That’s an absolute pain that the rainy season brings in. We’ll soon write an article on how to overcome this, for now let’s see how to shoo away the mosquitoes.

#1. No Stagnant Water

Mosquitoes breed only in water and we all know it. The one thing that we probably don’t understand about this fact is that mosquitoes don’t need a can full of water to do this, even little water that is left open in a bottle cap would do. Constantly clear leaves and branches from getting clogged and keep your drain lines clear thus making your home surroundings less appealing to mosquitoes. Check your vases, shower spots, and bathrooms for pockets of water that might harbour the next set of breed.

#2. Let The Fans Run Fast

The most effective and easiest way to blow away mosquitoes is to have the fans always running.  The logic is simple yet true. Mosquitoes cannot manage to fly against the fast blowing steady breeze. Mosquitoes are quite clever that they even detect the air we exhale and follow the path of carbon dioxide. Yes, mosquitoes locate us by smelling the Carbon dioxide when we breathe. So, fans that are set high help in dispersing that carbon dioxide emitted by humans.

#3. Stay covered

Needless to say, we’ll all anyhow be wearing long sleeves and applying really effective mosquito repellent creams. Toes are the prime blood-sucking hot spot for insects as they love sweat and bacteria more. So, ensure you wear high socks. But, remember, mosquitoes ARE clever! Even when you’re alert and make all things ready, there are chances that they fly through you. Wonder how? What if your neighbour’s garden is a breeding yard? Net your windows and doors as the first thing today.

#4. Plants That Repel Mosquitoes

Surround both your indoor and outdoor with plants that mosquitoes usually throng in. In that case, they’ll serve double purpose by being a natural defence screen as well as add an aesthetic value to your home. Some best picks could be Rosemary, Lavender and Basil. These herbs and flowers will make sure your unwanted guests are not let inside your home. One advantage is that mosquitoes hate the strong herbal scent that we humans love. So, yaaay!

#5. Camphor is the Savior

Drop one camphor ball in a small bowl of water and keep it in the corner of every room. The odour is more than enough to drive away the predators. The bowl can be replaced every 2 to 3 days to maintain the strength. You can also use garlic, not outdoors but you can consume them. Yes, it will help mask the smell of carbon dioxide when you breathe.

The above-mentioned steps are some quick yet proven ways to get rid of the mosquito population but if you happen to live in a heavily infested area, ensure you take them seriously.
