In line with the Government’s Net Zero strategy, Pickfords has published its Carbon Reduction Plan. As the UK’s largest removals company, Pickfords set a science-based carbon reduction target to reach net-zero by 2050. In 2021, Pickfords achieved Carbon Assessed Company status after working with the leading provider of sustainable services, Carbon Footprint Ltd. In 2022, Pickfords has announced that by 2050, they aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per thousand moves by 75%
Since becoming the first removals company to achieve ISO14001 in 2008, Pickfords has been committed to developing its environmental strategy. The introduction of a formal recycling policy with a move day collection and a full assessment of our packing materials to measure sustainability was conducted by the management team. Pickfords also invested in new survey app technology as a part of their mission to rescue the CO2 emissions from road transport. All Pickfords drivers receive training geared towards fuel-efficient driving which reduces the impact of emissions on the environment and all Pickford vehicles comply with Euro 6 emission standards.
The company has taken a proactive approach to include further carbon reduction initiatives as a part of its Carbon Reduction Plan. From transferring to 100% renewable tariffs for all electricity utilities to keeping abreast of sustainable alternatives in transport technologies to adopt in the future, Pickfords set out these measures to ensure that it meets its science-based carbon reduction targets.
In an effort to offset its carbon footprint, Pickfords has made investments in several global climate change projects. Some of the projects include promoting and encouraging an improved cooking practice project in Nigeria aimed at reducing smoke and pollutants in the atmosphere and Biodiversity projects in the Amazon Rainforest and Kenya. The company also invested in a waste to energy plant in Brazil and Istanbul.
Mark Taylor, Managing director of Pickfords said “We have set this target in line with the Government’s Net Zero strategy. We are committed to changing our ways of working, from the energy we consume to the way we procure sustainable goods and services. We want to go further to create a sustainable company which will play its part to achieve the Government’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050”.
