Types of Specialty Doctors for Your Routine Check-ups

Experiencing good health and life is our inherent right. While we all wish to remain healthy and avoid visiting the doctor, an occasional knock at the doctor’s clinic for regular check-ups is more than helpful to prevent any serious illness. These days we have a number of specialist doctors and clinics around the block for easy access. Below is a list of specialist doctors we must visit for routine check-ups.

1. Ophthalmologist

It is very necessary to visit your ophthalmologist annually. We should keep in mind that eye examinations are not just required for people with poor vision quality, but a timely eye check-up also keeps diabetes at bay (if any). With hours spent on computers, the radiation affects our eye tissues which might lead to dry eyes and eye infections. Paediatric ophthalmic screening is also very important as blurred visions are quite a common problem among the younger generation these days. Once you are above 40 years of age, visiting an ophthalmologist is a must. As your eyes age, they may get affected by glaucoma or cataract. Your eyes are your lens, care for them!

2. General physician/House physician

They are the favourite of every household. Specialising in all treatments irrespective of age, general physicians are the one who treats us from chronic illnesses to acute ones and also educate us on various preventive health measures. For an early detection of any serious diseases or referring a specialist, he plays a very important role. We should definitely keep visiting them at regular intervals or if our body signals any abnormality.

3. Gynaecologist/Obstetrician

An orderly visit to the gynaecologist is a must after a girl’s menstrual cycle onsets. An assessment of female health is essential because many diseases might silently find abode and a physical examination will prevent any further hamper. For women above 40 years, a breast examination is highly recommended to detect early cancer.  And much to our knowledge, pregnancy definitely calls for a visit to an obstetrician.

4. Paediatrician

Get well-baby visits done for your little ones. Rather than self-medicating your baby, a quick visit to the paediatrician proves way helpful even if your baby is down with flu. Also, it is important that your child’s physical and mental development gets assessed by the doctor at regular intervals. Every passing year is a milestone for your child. Gift them happy health!

5. Dentist

How often should we visit a dentist? This a looming question often asked by many. Quite in similar lines with eye health, we need not run to a dentist only when we experience cavities or gum infection. Getting your dental health check-up done once every six months helps prevent many oral diseases. Smokers, diabetics, patients with cavity and plaque issues should go for dental visits frequently. Keep your mouth healthy and breath clean.

6. Orthopaedic

Osteoporosis, one of the impending bone problems among elderly women is never to be overlooked. Get your Bone Mineral Density or BMD test done as and when instructed by the doctor. This test screens your bone health and also lets you know if you are at a risk of bone loss or fracture in the near future. If you are a woman above 65 years of age, a BMD is important at regular intervals. Also, young women with a history of fracture should never miss a BMD test or visiting an orthopaedic.
