Effective time management – Tips for Small Business Owners

Does it happen that you have several tasks to be accomplished in a day but the list remains unchecked while you are on the verge of the day end?

Yes, it does happen to many of us where we find ourselves trapped in the time puzzle where we actually can’t figure out where the time flies and still the work status remains pending.

This is the case of every business owner’s life, they as a small company owner can’t appoint a number of employees and thus has to portray many roles and handle many responsibilities single-handedly. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything about the workload and being busy, but what one can do is manage those work in a manner that can help them give enough time to each task to get it done correctly.

Below are some of the effective time management tips that can help any startup business owner plan his/her day better to have some productive outputs at the day end.

  • Eliminate the timewasters

The first thing that you need to figure out to make sure you invest your time in the right direction is to find where it is actually wasted. There are many activities that you as a business owner might be doing that is unnoticing eating a lot of your time.

Note what those things are, is it the overuse of social media or the unnecessary meetings that could be reduced in number? Or whether you are spending too much time answering calls and attending people and satisfying their needs.

Once you get your answer, try to cut these activities as much as possible, set a timer for using your mobile and social media, set your meetings only when you think it’s needed and not because it has to be done every day.

  • Figure out your productive time

Everyone has a time in a day when he/she can work best with full concentration and dedication. This is what we call the most productive time of the day when the mind is alert enough to have the most amazing ideas and is ready to do the maximum amount of work that can be done by a person in a day.

Business owners have a lot of things lined up, find what is your productive time and make your schedule such that you have most of your work listed in those hours. For some people, it’s early in the morning while some are the late-night workers who like to do their best when everyone around is having a slumber sleep.

  • Apply 80/20 rule

It’s often said that the time given to make a well-structured plan reduces its implementation time to 1/4th in comparison to randomly made plans that are made without having clarity about their final outputs.

The 80/20 rule has the same ideology to follow, as per the rule, it says that 80% of good results come from the time spent on 20% efforts to get those outputs. The most important thing about that 20% effort is how you set your priority of the tasks. List down the task list while making the combination of an urgent and required basis and then make the efforts to give your best for the task that lists on the top of the priority list.

  • Hire some trustworthy people

You might be thinking you are capable enough to handle everything, but there comes a time when your business needs people who can collectively help you get your task done to get it delivered on time.

Trust them for their work, assign them the tasks that you don’t find time to look after. This will give you time to focus on the other important aspects of your business which truly requires much of your attention.

In case you are unable to afford a great number of employees, look for people who are in need of a job and can do your work with little or no money. College students are more preferred for such startups as they are ready to learn and gain industry experience at low wages.

  • Automate your process

The last thing that comes to the time management list is using the technology which helps you do your work faster. There are many project management software available that helps the company owners streamline the work easily.

Learn these tech gadgets, find how you can utilize their features to reduce your time consumption. Like a businessman needs to generate many bills at the end of the month which takes much of his time to continue with the regular work schedule, an automated bill generating software can make the work easier for them as they just need to export the data every end of the month, thus saving a lot time of the owner.

Summing Up

You cannot increase the amount of time you get in a day but you can surely manage it by making some smart moves towards implementing some effective time management strategies. So does managing the time matters for anyone who has his own business and needs to handle many responsibilities to make it work effectively.

For all those small business owners who are bouncing from task to task just in the effort to get all things done, hopefully, the above tips would help you manage your day better and give some satisfactory outputs by ticking off all your tasks to be done.
