Deforestation is a major environmental problem in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, losing about 1.4 million hectares of forest every year, according to the United Nations. This devastates the country’s biodiversity, soil quality, water resources, and the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on the forest for food, fuel, and medicine.
