A Catalogue of Inevitable or Specified Must-Haves

To embark on your lifetime Umrah itinerary, have a double check on all the inevitable documented items that have made your Umrah journey possible. These items are your Saudi Passport, ID Card, airline ticket, hotel voucher, and transport vouchers and tickets. The other things demanded by the Saudi Govt are your Vaccination Record, Health Insurance Certificate ( if you have), Relationship Certificate ( if you are a woman traveling with a spouse or a Mahram), passport size photos, Bank Drafts of the Umrah or Hajj payments, Saudi Riyals or ATM Card.

Better to Have the Money in Cash

It is better or even the best to take your money in cash. You can leave the ATM card to avoid the hassle of the long queues that you may find over there.

Phone Numbers and Addresses

It is very, very important to have the phone numbers of your closest friends and family members in any case of emergency. Moreover, during the great rush of immense pilgrim throngs, there may be a chance of separation with your Umrah fellows in Haram, so it’s mandatory to have the list of all your important contacts with you in your phone. It’s much better to jot down all those numbers on a page and keep it with you in your handbag if your mobile phone is lost or misplaced. Moreover, some emergency numbers must also be jotted down to have a contended time

Islamic Will

It is necessary to handover your will to your closest family members like your wife, children, and siblings. Because life is so uncertain and we are not assured of our next moment of life. So even before embarking on your Umrah itinerary you must give your will (if you have) to your family fellows to avoid any future inconvenience, and keep one copy of it to yourself.

List of Must-Have Personal Belongings

If you are going on Umrah with kids, then there is a list of some inevitable personal belongings that you must keep with yourself.

Medication

It does not matter whether you have health issues or not, you must keep some medicines like General painkillers, anti-diarrhea, cough, and cold medicines, laxatives for constipation (fiber tablets like Fiber-Lax, Benefiberetc), Anti-allergy and other personal medications depending on your needs.

Note:

It is very important to consult your doctor before embarking on your Umrah journey because it is a long journey and the mental and physical fitness is the first and foremost requirement for this purpose.

Ihrams

Ihram is mandatory clothing for men during their Umrah or Hajj. It is a two-piece unstitched cloth. One is to cover the upper body and the other one is to wear the lower body part. Keep it with you mandatorily and have an extra pair of this Umrah cloth as well. Your male kids of school-going age must also follow suit.

Note: Ihram must not be a towel type material. Any fabric piece can be used. The light cotton fabric is a highly recommended pick for you.

Bandages and other Skin-Ointments

In case of any injury (God- forbid), you may need the bandages and skin ointments.

Rehydrating packets of Salts

The Saudi Summers are really hot and after the performance of arduous Umrah rituals, you can use rehydrating agents like ORS, powdered Powerade and also keep a light water bottle with you all the time.

Small-Foldable Scissor

You can follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (SAW) of cutting hair from tips. If you keep your pair of Scissors you need not ask from the other pilgrims around there. Sometimes, there is a long list of pilgrims for a tiny scissor.

Miswak or Tooth Brush

Miswak is another Sunnah of Holy Prophet (SAW) to make your teeth spick and span. It not only saves you from the hassle of finding water but also aids you getting extra rewards from Allah (SWT)

Comfortable Walking Shoes/ Snickers and Socks

It is important not to hurt your feet during your arduous Umrah rituals. So keep the comfy shoes with you and wear them there. Don’t go for Umrah in some fancy shoes or sandals that you have not tried before.

Moreover, keep with you 2, 3 pairs of socks. Wear socks with your shoes otherwise your feet may get bruised or injured. No need for fancy socks just wear cotton or light cotton socks as the floor of Haram is hot during the summers so you may need a thick pair of socks for you.

Note: the Ankle-covering socks and shoes are not allowed for men there.

Tissue Papers & Wipes

The pilgrims over there need loads of tissue papers and wipes over there. You need them at the time of dua because you may get snotty over there. You need the wipes to wipe-off your sweat after your Sa’e and Tawwaf.

Unscented Sunscreen or Sunblock

To avoid harmful sun rays after the sunlight exposure, you can keep unscented sunblock or sunscreen. Remember that it must be unscented, not water-resistant because the Ablution would become hard for you.

Unscented Soap

You must keep an unscented soap with you to maintain your hygiene.

Unscented Petroleum Jelly

If you having kids for Umrah, petroleum Jelly would be beneficial for you, especially in winters to keep your skin soft.

Alarm Clock

To be on time for nightly prayers in Haram and Tawwaf around the Holy Kaaba, you must keep an alarm clock with you.

Prayer Mat

You can find plenty of prayer mats over there as well. However, keeping your prayer mat whether large or medium-thick or thin would be more suitable for you and your family.

Abayas and Head Scarfs with Pins

For women during their Umrah, it is mandatory to keep their headscarves on their heads throughout their journey and always keep an extra piece with themselves. Furthermore, their Hijab or scarfs must be nicely pinned so they need not fidget with your scarfs all the time.

Small Bags

It’s recommended taking a small, easy to carry bag with you with fine sections to keep all your necessary belongings with you including tissue papers, dry fruit items, mobile, dua-book and ID cards, etc.

Travel Bag with Wheels

In addition to your belongings if you have to buy gifts for your dear ones you must take a travel bag with wheels with you, so can carry them easily anywhere.

Dry Fruit, Biscuits and other dry food items

To maintain your blood pressure and keep sound energy to perform all the Umrah rituals, you must keep dry fruits, biscuits candies, toffees with you

Islamic Resources

While having your Umrah, it is usual to get lost in the spiritual grandeur of the Holiest Muslim-loving place on earth. So you can forget the duas or Umrah steps. You must keep the following Sacred belongings with you.

Note: Don’t bring bulky or heavy books with you, if you do so, you may get pushed away by the huge throngs while searching for pages you want.

Umrah/Hajj Guide Book

To keep yourself enlightened with all Umrah steps, take a small and authentic Umrah guide book with you.

Dua Book or Dua Diary

You should keep a small dua book with all the duas recommended in Umrah. You can also make your dua diary containing all the duas for your fellows and loved ones. Never forget to make duas for your saddened and ill fellows as whatever you pray for them, Allah’s angels pray for you.

Pocket Quran

Recite Quran e Majeed, as more as you can after setting out for your Spiritual journey. For this keep a small portable pocket Quran with you.
